Getting to Matemwe

From Stone Town or Zanzibar International Airport (ZNZ), the journey to Matemwe is about one and a half hours in a Mini bus or Taxi on a smooth tarmac road (with the exception of the last 20 minutes). You will have constant view of tropical greenery, school children happily running home and small winding roads where farmers dry their cloves by the roadside. The ride definitely prepares you for what is to come.

The journey to Matemwe can be spiced up by making stopovers at the famous Kidichi Spice farms, where you can extend your knowledge of spices such as Cloves, Cinnamon, Black pepper, Nutmeg, Turmeric root and tropical fruits such as Jackfruit, Custard apple, Rambutan and Carambola. A visit to the Kidichi Persian Baths that were built by the first Sultan of Zanzibar, Sultan Said Bin Sultan, in 1850 and the Maruhubi Palace Ruins built by the third Sultan of Zanzibar, Sultan Said Baraghash Bin Said, in 1880 is highly recommended.
